German Riesling with the winemaker!

Want a taste of the Wine Spectator Grand Tour without the $200 price tag? Well, then you want to come down to Bauer Wine & Spirits on Friday afternoon for Riesling and some snacks!

We are pleased to announce that on Friday, May 20, 2011 winemaker/owner Nik Weis from St. Urbans-Hof Weingut will be holding a tasting of his award winning wines from 4 to 6:30 pm.

Nik is the third generation of his family to manage the winery founded by his grandfather Nicolaus Weis, in 1947.  Nik grew up on the winery and has been involved in all aspects of the St. Urbans-Hof from breeding vines at the nursery operated by the winery, to cultivating vineyards and making wine.

Nik’s philosophy maintains the traditional methods of wine growing and winemaking that have been in use for the past 200o years (introduced to the area by the Romans) in the Saar and Mosel River Valleys.  The use of organic fertilizers is a must and this means that the crop is kept low to produce well-structured and intense wines.  That, in turn, has translated to highly rated wines by the Wine Spectator and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

In his own words, Nik assures us that “the highest quality wines are a result of hard work during an entire year.  Careful soil cultivation, precise shoot positioning, leaf thinning, crop reduction, hand-picking and late harvesting are all fundamental procedures taken in order to ensure that the wine reflect the character of the land on which it is grown.”

With Nik Weis’ history and his dedication to producing outstanding wines, I can only ask you…. How can you possibly not want to meet this amazing man and let him pour you his Rieslings?
